Yawnr ("the App", "we", "us") lets you set alarms and connect with people you trust ("yawners") so you can wake each other up. This policy explains what the App collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices you have.
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and the username you choose. You can sign up with an email and password, or with Google Sign-In — if you use Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We do not collect your phone number.
Your yawner connections. We store the list of people you are connected to, any pending requests you have sent or received, anyone you have blocked, the nickname you give a yawner, and the permissions you grant each of them (whether they may ring your alarm or schedule alarms for you, and for how long).
Your alarms. We store the alarms you set — the time, the label you give them, whether they repeat, which sound they use, and, for alarms a yawner sets for you, who set them. We also store when an alarm was last armed, so the App can tell an alarm that has already gone off from one still due.
Audio you upload or record. If you upload a sound file or record your voice to use as an alarm, we store that audio so it can be played on your device and on the devices of yawners you send it to. Recording uses your device's microphone, and only when you choose to record.
Your time zone and quiet hours. We store your device's time zone and the Do Not Disturb window you set, so yawners in other places can see your local time and be warned before ringing you while you are likely asleep. Both are visible to your yawners.
Push notification tokens. To deliver alarms between devices, the App registers with a push service (Firebase Cloud Messaging, and Apple Push Notification service on iOS) and stores a device token linked to your account, along with whether the device is Android or iOS.
Camera. If you add a yawner by scanning their QR code, the App uses your camera to read the code. Images are not stored or transmitted.
Activity needed to run features. We record when you last rang each yawner, so the App can show the people you wake up most often first.
We do not collect your contacts, your location, your phone number, or advertising identifiers. The App contains no advertising, no analytics and no third-party trackers.
We use this information only to operate the App: to create and maintain your account, to connect you with your chosen yawners, to deliver and ring alarms on the right device at the right time with the right sound, to apply the permissions and quiet hours you set, and to respond to support requests.
We do not sell your personal information.
With your yawners. People you are connected to can see your username and email address, your time zone and quiet-hours window, and the alarms you have set — including ones you set only for yourself. They can see and play any sound or voice clip you send them. They cannot see your list of other connections, anyone you have blocked, or your own sound library.
When someone adds you. Another signed-in user who already has your account identifier — from a QR code you showed them, an invite link you sent, or your email address typed into the App — can retrieve your profile record so the App can show them who they are adding. Your profile cannot be searched or browsed: there is no way to list users, and an identifier cannot be guessed.
With service providers. The App runs on Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions and Cloud Messaging). Your data is stored and processed on Google's infrastructure, which is located in the United States, under Google's terms as a data processor. Push notifications to iOS devices pass through Apple's Push Notification service.
If you are in the UK or EEA, this means your information is transferred outside your country. These transfers rely on the standard contractual clauses in Google's data processing terms.
We keep your account information, connections, alarms and uploaded audio for as long as your account exists. Signal messages used to deliver an alarm are deleted as soon as the alarm is delivered.
Delete your account. You can delete your account from within the App, in Account Settings. This removes your profile, alarms, connections, and every sound and recording you uploaded. You can also request deletion by contacting us.
Control who can wake you. You can change or revoke any yawner's permissions at any time, block a yawner, or remove a connection.
Quiet hours. You can set a Do Not Disturb window during which yawners are warned before ringing you.
Permissions. You can revoke notification, microphone and camera access at any time in your device settings. Revoking notification or alarm permissions will stop the App from being able to wake you.
If you are in the UK or EEA, you also have the right to access, correct, export or restrict the use of your personal information, and to object to its processing. Contact us and we will respond.
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. Access to your data is restricted by server-side rules:
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
If you have questions about this policy, or want to access or delete your data, contact us at yawnr.support@gmail.com.
